Conference on gut diseases from today - The Hindu

The 59th national conference of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology, ISGCON-2018, will begin here on Wednesday.

Mathew Philip, organising secretary, said the meet would take stock of the gastrointestinal disease burden in the country, effective strategies to tackle them and focus on latest updates and advances in the field of gastroenterology, hepatology and gastrointestinal endoscopy.

The four-day conference will be inuaugurated by Cochin International Airport Limited Managing Director V.J. Kurian at the Lulu Bolgatty International Convention Centre. The conference is being organised by the Kerala chapter of Indian Society of Gastroenterology (ISG) in association with the Cochin Gut Club.

Over 2,500 delegates from across the country and more than a hundred eminent specialist doctors from the United States, and Europe, Asian and African countries will hold deliberations to share their treatment strategies, expertise and cutting edge techniques in gastroenterology.

The specialised field of medicine has many sectors where latest scientific knowledge, skills and prevailing methods from across the world have to be pooled and shared. The conference aims to achieve those objectives, said Dr. Philip.

The annual conference is being held in the State after a gap of 16 years. The meet is also carbon-negative and nature-friendly, and will avoide use of plastics and flex materials. Papers will be presented in the e-poster format.

Promoting the concept of ‘Healthy Gut, Healthy Life’, the delegates will organise a mini marathon on Friday at 5.30 a.m.
