Using data from a prospectively maintained database of the Polish Colonoscopy Screening Program, researchers ascertained if the stage of colorectal cancer (CRC) detected in overweight and obese individuals differs from normal body mass index (BMI) individuals, as well as whether overweight and obesity influence overall CRC survival. In this cross-sectional analysis involving 163,129 people, compared to non-obese, obese screenings present with less advanced disease. In addition, clinically stratified survival does not appear to be influenced by the category of BMI. Consequently, a higher proportion of early diagnosed cancers in this group can potentially create a survival benefit.
