Livingston Resident Charged with Sexual Crimes Against Three Gastroenterology Patients - TAPinto.net

ELIZABETH, NJ — Livingston resident Michael Tyshkov, a formerly Summit-based pediatric gastroenterologist who was arrested earlier this year and charged with sexually assaulting one of his patients on numerous occasions, has now been criminally charged in connection with similar alleged incidents involving two additional patients, according to acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay Ruotolo.

The Union County Prosecutor’s Office (UCPO) announced on Friday that Tyshkov, 65, faces two counts of second-degree sexual assault, one count of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and three counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact.

Union County Assistant Prosecutor Stacey Zyriek—who is prosecuting the case—stated that an investigation by the UCPO Special Victims Unit and the Summit Police Department revealed that the first identified victim—a 20-year-old female—had been seen regularly for treatment by Tyshkov over the course of slightly more than a decade.

According to Zyriek, the investigation also revealed that the assaults occurred during medical exams taking place on numerous occasions from April 2016 through March 2019.

She added that the charges filed in connection with the two additional victims involve alleged crimes occurring on dates about four months apart in 2017. The victims were 16 and 19, respectively, at the time and were reportedly sexually assaulted under the guise of a routine gastroenterology exam, she said.

Tyshkov—who has surrendered his medical licenses in New Jersey as well as New York, where he had a secondary practice on Staten Island—was free on pretrial release. His conditions included house arrest and electronic monitoring when the new charges were filed, according to the UCPO.

A second detention hearing in Superior Court took place on Thursday morning, pursuant to which Tyshkov was released under the same conditions previously ordered by the court.

According to the UCPO, it is strongly believed that there may be additional victims associated with Tyshkov, who is also believed to have had a number of Russian-language speaking patients.

Anyone with information about Tyshkov’s activities is being urged to contact Special Victims Unit Detective Jennifer Smith at 908-965-3814 or Summit Police Detective Christopher Medina at 908-273-0051.

Convictions on second-degree criminal charges are commonly punishable by five-to-10 years in state prison, according to the UCPO, while third-degree crimes can result in three-to-five years.
