Yosemite Park Visitors Sickened By Gastrointestinal Virus | KCBS 740AM | 106.9 FM - KCBS
About 170 people have become sick with a gastrointestinal illness after spending time recently in Yosemite Valley, according to Yosemite National Park.
As of Thursday, there have been two confirmed cases of norovirus. The overwhelming majority of sickened patients exhibit symptoms are consistent with the illness, according to the Park.
The unpleasant sickness has afflicted employees and visitors at the park. Most cases appeared in early January, Yosemite officials said.
The National Park Service Office of Public Health is continuing to investigate the outbreak, alongside Yosemite National Park Officials.
Norovirus is a very contagious virus that causes vomiting and diarrhea, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It spreads quickly, through contact with an infected individual, touching an infected item or eating or drinking infected food or liquids.
Yosemite recommends visitors frequently wash their hands with soap and water, and avoid sharing food and drink.
