Tampa General rated as the top area hospital a fifth time - Tampa Bay Times
TAMPA — Tampa General Hospital has been named the best hospital in Tampa Bay for the fifth consecutive year by U.S. News & World Report.
It also ranked as one of the country’s top 50 hospitals for five specialties: cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, nephrology, and orthopedics.
The hospital was rated as “high performing” in cancer treatment, geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, pulmonology and lung surgery, and urology.
“We are proud to have received this recognition, which is a true testament to the hard work and high-quality performance of our team members and physicians,” Tampa General president and CEO John Couris said in a statement. “Quality is paramount at TGH, and we will not stop in our pursuit of excellence as we work toward becoming the safest and most innovative academic medical center in the country.”
John Touchton, chairman of the hospital’s board of directors, said the rankings should “provide great comfort” to residents of the Tampa Bay community.
More than 4,500 medical centers nationwide were considered by U.S. News & World Report, which releases hospital rankings annually. The rankings, based on various care-related metrics, are meant to help patients choose where to go for health services.
