McCrammer Rakes in Beef Steer Earnings at Marshall

The Marshall County 4-H livestock auction took place last Friday at the Marshall County Fairgrounds in Argos. The auction brought in a total of $143,354.21, with 196 lots sold. This was up from last year's total of $132,759.
The beef project had three lots sold that brought a total of $19,119.50. Izabelle McCrammer of Center Twp. exhibited the grand champion beef steer, which sold for $12,286.20. Ashley Pugh of Union Twp. exhibited the reserve champion beef steer for $4,606.
The dairy beef project brought in $21,295.25 with a total of eight lots. The grand champion dairy steer was shown by Leah Pizzuto but was not sold. Trent Conley of Bourbon Twp. showed the reserve champion dairy steer. Conley's steer went through the auction and brought $6,824.
Dairy products were represented in the auction and sold for $9,075. Brooke Kitch of Bourbon Twp. exhibited the grand champion Guernsey and sold her dairy products for $700. Parker Norris of Polk Twp. sold dairy products from his grand champion grade Holstein for $3,150.
Casen Norris exhibited the reserve champion grade Holstein. Sophia Bollenbacher, a 10-year member from Green Twp., showed the grand champion Jersey. She sold a dairy basket for $3,000. Her sister, Ellie, exhibited the reserve champion Jersey.
Kaidan Schafer of Green Twp. exhibited the grand champion registered Holstein and the reserve champion registered Holstein. However, he is taking them to the state fair and did not sell any dairy products.
Kathie Vermillion of Bourbon Twp., with the grand champion Milking Shorthorn, sold dairy products for $1,000.
The sheep project was well represented, with 21 lots sold bringing in a total of $9,168. Karlie Dickey from Union Twp. won grand champion market lamb with her Shropshire that was purchased for $1,777. Kayleigh Verhaege won the reserve champion market lamb, which did not sell.
The swine project had the largest representation of the entire auction, with 74 lots and bringing in $49,732.12. Karsen Hoffman of Union Twp. sold his grand champion barrow in the auction for $4,171.68. His father, Kelly Hoffman, was the auctioneer during his son's winning sale. Ethan Verhaeghe, 10-year 4-H member from German Twp., sold the reserve champion barrow for $2,182.07.
The dairy goat project had 14 lots and brought in a total of $7,685.25. Lena Jones of West Twp. sold her grand champion dairy goat for $2,027. Her sister, Ellie, showed the reserve champion dairy goat and brought in $1,999.
Meat goats had a total of 22 lots and raked in $18,318.75. Taylor Laudeman of Tippecanoe Twp. exhibited the grand champion wether, which brought in $2,327.50. Cailey Markley, also of Tippecanoe Twp., exhibited her reserve champion wether, which sold for $2,542.50 to her supporters. Lauren Andrews showed the grand champion market doe. Kayleigh Verhaeghe exhibited the reserve champion market doe.
The rabbit project had 35 lots that sold for a total of $ 4,315. Sarah Kline of German Twp. showed the grand champion single fryer, which sold for $200 as well as the grand champion meat pen, which brought $700. Parker Holt exhibited the reserve champion single fryer. Peyton Jones, 10-year member from North Twp., exhibited the reserve champion meat pen, which brought $350.
This year's poultry project had 15 lots and generated $4,650. Parker Wolfe of West Twp. sold his champion meat chickens for $850. Mitchell Powell exhibited the reserve champion meat chickens, which sold for $300. Hunter Schaetzle of Bourbon Twp. showed the champion ducks, which brought $100. Reese Carver showed the reserve champion ducks. Alex Dent of North Twp. exhibited the champion turkeys that sold for $300. Caleb Schaetzle's reserve champion turkeys were purchased for $200. Peyton Jones from North Twp. sold her champion geese for $1,600. Jones also won reserve champion geese in her 10th year of fair.
