Hanover Kennel Club Dog Show Happening This Weekend In Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — This weekend, the Hanover Kennel Club will host its annual dog show at Legion Stadium, where hundreds of dogs will compete for the coveted title of Best in Show. The event is set to take place from 8 a.M. To approximately 3:30 p.M. On Saturday and Sunday.

Jared New from the Hanover Kennel Club shared details about what attendees can expect.

"Guests should plan to arrive in the morning," he said. "The dog show will continue throughout the day until the Best in Show is completed. However, we kindly ask that attendees do not bring their own personal dogs."

The show will feature a variety of breeds, each judged according to specific standards set by their breed parent clubs. Judges, trained and instructed on these standards, will evaluate the dogs based on their adherence to breed characteristics.

"Each breed has individual things that they're looking for," New explained.

For first-time attendees, the show offers a chance to see numerous breeds, meet breeders, and connect with other dog show enthusiasts. New says the atmosphere will be similar to that of prestigious events like the Westminster Dog Show but with a local twist.

Parking for the event is free at Legion Stadium, and there is no ticket required for entry. Attendees can come and go as they please, and food trucks and vendors will be available on-site for those looking for refreshments.

For detailed scheduling of breed judging, interested guests can visit the Hanover Kennel Club's website.
