Pucci Cafe In Katy Supports Pet Rescues Through Dog-friendly Boutique, Cafe

Bobby and Maria Davidson were inspired to create Pucci Cafe after a Mediterranean cruise took them to Monaco, Barcelona and London, Bobby Davidson said.

The European-inspired, dog-friendly boutique cafe opened in September 2022 as a passion project the couple began after their kids left home, he said.

"We're a luxury dog boutique, but we're also a public cafe," he said. "So like-minded people, dog owners, dog lovers, can come here and have third-wave coffee drinks."

What to expect

Located at the LaCenterra retail center near the owner's Cinco Ranch home, Pucci Cafe sits in a suite along a small lake with fountains and a Spanish-inspired patio with a small "bark park" for puppies to play, Davidson said.

The exterior design features ample seating and lighting, as well as multiple living plant walls with the cafe's name at the center.

Baristas use an imported espresso machine to craft specialty drinks named after dogs, such as the Newfypoo Nitro and the Chow Chow Cold Brew.

On Thursday and Sunday evenings, Latin jazz guitarist Carlos G performs while customers sip wine and bond with their dogs, Davidson said.

The inspiration

Davidson claimed Pucci Cafe was the first official dog-friendly patio in Fort Bend County where customers can purchase artisan coffees, wine, desserts, designer dog accessories and dog treats from a "barkery."

Inside the cafe, there's a wall filled with photos of pets up for adoption with a scannable barcode for more information about them and the agency taking care of them.

This, along with the portion of Pucci Cafe's online and in-store profits being directed to pet rescues nationwide, supports its mission to bring awareness to adopting from these organizations, Bobby Davidson said.

"We think that Tori, the one we adopted [from Yorkie Haven Rescue], was escaping a puppy mill when she got hit by a car," he said. "They nursed her back to health and it was pretty expensive. So they make sure they go to a good home."

Pet Supplies Plus Franchisees Plan 3 NJ Stores

Pet Supplies Plus is about to have an even bigger pawprint in New Jersey.

The pet retail franchise plans to open its 15th in-state location Nov. 1 at 980 Shrewsbury Ave. In Tinton Falls.

Along with a broad selection of pet products, including natural foods, toys and other goods, Pet Supplies Plus will offer amenities such as a full-service grooming salon and self-serve wash stations.

Based in Michigan, Franchise Group Inc. Acquired Pet Supplies Plus in 2021 for $700 million. The buyer's portfolio also includes Secaucus-headquartered nutritional retailer The Vitamin Shoppe and tutoring company Sylvan Learning.

Since then, Pet Supplies Plus has been busy growing the retailer's brick-and-mortar presence, as well as online capabilities. In addition to buying in store, customers can shop online for free curbside pickup, same day delivery or auto ship. They can also get pet prescriptions filled and delivered.

Considered the largest independent pet store in the U.S., Pet Supplies Plus has more than 730 locations in 44 states.

Meet the team

Pet Supplies Plus in Tinton Falls will operate 9 a.M. To 9 p.M., Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.M. To 6 p.M., Sunday. The store offers one-hour curbside pickup and free same-day delivery on all online orders.

Pet Supplies Plus encourages guests to bring their leashed pets into the store. According to the business, the outlet is staffed by knowledgeable and caring team members who can answer questions or provide tips.

Local husband-wife duo Mansi and Dipit Patel, Heerak Amin and Rick Allocca own and operate the soon-to-open store. They also plan to open two additional locations in New Jersey; however, details on those outlets was not immediately available.

Mansi Patel manages her husband Dipit Patel's real estate firm. She says she's always had a passion for pets and dreamed of opening her own store to connect with the community. The couple, which has a 4-year-old dachshund, said they were drawn to Pet Supplies Plus for its reputation and community-focused business model.

Allocca, a lifelong pet enthusiast and father to a 1-year-old, shares a similar vision of wanting to create a family-friendly space where children can experience the joy of pets. For Amin, who brings a background in retail and experience in the pet industry, the business seemed like a natural fit.

Get in on the celebration

As community partners, the owners plan to work alongside local animal shelters, rescue organizations and nonprofits to host year-round adoption events, fundraisers, pet food and product drives.

"My dog means the world to me, and I always want to ensure he gets the very best care possible. I found that level of care and attention at Pet Supplies Plus, and now I want to make sure all pets receive the same love and quality service," said Mansi Patel. "I'm so excited to be a part of this journey and can't wait to help other pet parents provide the best care for their fur babies." 'Dog Food With Lead In It': FedEx Delivery Driver Has A PSA For Customers Who Order Chewy Deliveries

This FedEx delivery worker is so over delivering your heavy monthly Chewy boxes, stating that the company has lead issues anyway.

What is Chewy?

Chewy is an online retailer specializing in pet products and supplies for a variety of animals including dogs, cats, birds, and reptiles. It's most known for its subscription service, which allows you to auto-ship a number of products (like food and medication).

The company incentivizes people to choose this option by offering a discount on auto-shipments and touting its convenience.

While it was founded in 2011, it seems to have boomed in popularity after being acquired by PetSmart for $3.35 billion in 2017.

You may have already seen a neighbor receive a box with the now-recognizable chewy logo across it.

FedEx worker complains while issuing PSA

In a viral video with more than 340,000 views, FedEx worker Jennifer Monique (@jennifermonique036) says that "FedEx needs to go on and print Chewy" on the side of its vans because that seems to be all they're delivering nowadays.

"Heavy *ss Chewy boxes," Monique says.

"These Chewy sh*ts is heavy. It's motherf*ckin dog food with lead in it," she jokingly adds.

As online ordering continues to boom and become the norm for how many people shop, delivery workers face the consequences of more frequent packages, more loaded routes, and heavy items.

In July, a California pet owner filed a class action lawsuit against Chewy for allegedly selling dog grooming products and ceramic food dishes containing harmful levels of lead without proper warning, Injury Claims reported.

If true, this violates California's Proposition 65, which requires businesses to warn consumers about potential exposure to chemicals that are known to cause cancer or birth defects.

Chewy does not seem to have publicly responded to the lawsuit or its claims.

What happens when a person or animal is exposed to lead?

Lead exposure can be harmful to children, adults, and pets. Lead exposure can happen by ingestion, inhalation, or physical contact.

In children, it can cause developmental delays, learning disabilities, and behavioral issues. In adults, it can increase the risk of health conditions like high blood pressure and kidney problems.

In dogs, it can lead to various health issues like anemia, gastrointestinal disorders, lethargy, anorexia, and neurological and behavioral changes, The Spruce Pets reported.

"Not me with a chewy order coming today," a top comment read.

"I ordered 3 cat litters and they put it all in one box! I felt bad and never did it again! It was like a box of bricks!" a person said.

"LISTEN!!! They got enough orders to have their own delivery company! I be dying getting that shift off the semi's," another added.
