Find Comprehensive Pet Care Around The Clock At Creekside 24/7 Pet Care Center

Led by medical director Dr. Frank Bettencourt, Creekside 24/7 Pet Care Center operates as a one-stop shop for all pet needs, ensuring individuals have access to quality care for their pets.

Having a variety of services available in one location offers convenience for pet owners and benefits pets as well.

"From the pet perspective, the more visits they come to, the more they get to know the people who work there," Bettencourt said. "The familiarity provides them a level of comfort."

The center is located at 8830 Davis Blvd., near Keller and Southlake, and offers services such as:

  • Emergency pet care
  • Urgent and sick care
  • Wellness Care
  • Vaccinations
  • Spay and neuter procedures
  • Teeth cleaning
  • Parasite prevention
  • Surgery
  • Boarding
  • Dog day care
  • Pet boarding
  • Grooming
  • What truly sets Creekside 24/7 Pet Care Center apart is its 24-hour service. Regardless of whether a pet needs routine care or immediate care for an unexpected injury, the team is always ready.

"Say somebody works weird hours and they can't come in during normal business hours for their pet's vaccinations, they can come at three or four in the morning, and there's always a doctor here," Bettencourt said.

Creekside 24/7 Pet Care Center's team prioritizes making pets feel safe and secure during visits, whether for routine grooming or critical medical procedures. This is achieved through the staff's calm and confident demeanor, paired with their commitment to excellence as an AAHA- accredited facility. This accreditation, awarded by the American Animal Hospital Association, is a mark of distinction that fewer than 15% of veterinary practices achieve. It signifies that the

clinic meets or exceeds over 900 standards of veterinary care, ensuring your pets receive the highest quality treatment in a safe, professional environment.

"Going slow and easy and having a quiet demeanor goes a long way towards keeping the animals comfortable," Bettencourt said.

The staff handles emergencies with care and efficiency, employing a triage system to ensure pets requiring immediate attention are seen promptly.

"When they come in and it's a true emergency, they will be immediately seen," Bettencourt said. "There are no wait times for a true emergency."

Routine wellness checks are handled with the same level of care as emergency procedures. These visits not only ensure pets are up to date on vaccinations but also help detect underlying issues early.

"When you see your pet every day, you may not notice that your pet has lost five pounds since last year," Bettencourt said. "If your cat or dog only weighs 10 to 15 pounds, that's very significant weight loss. We track all of that, because it hints that there could be something going on."

Bettencourt said the team at Creekside 24/7 Pet Care Center is another aspect of the practice that sets it apart.

"The staff care a lot about the patients and the clients, and they love coming to work," Bettencourt said. "I think we have a very good culture here."

With its comprehensive services and commitment to quality care, Creekside 24/7 Pet Care Center is a vital resource for pet owners in the Keller area.

"I want people to know that we're always here for them and for their pets, and that we are very proud of what we do here," Bettencourt said.

The Family Pet – Focusing On Four Legged Family Members

Along route 59 in Nanuet lies The Family Pet, a local pet shop headed by dynamic duo Pete Sherlock and Doug Stone. Locals may remember Pet Nutrition Center, the business that occupied the space prior to The Family Pet for over 20 years. When the owner shared with Doug Stone his plans of retiring and shutting the place down, Stone couldn't bear it. He had been a loyal customer of Pet Nutrition Center for 15 of the 20 years the shop had been open, and he knew of no other place in Rockland that provided the same level of knowledge and service. Stone knew right away he needed to step in. However, Stone had previously worked in the spirits business, a far cry from the pet supplies store he was now in charge of.

This is the part of the story where Stone's right hand man Pete Sherlock comes in. Sherlock had worked with the owner of Pet Nutrition since his high school days, going back over 20 years. Sherlock, who is now the general manager and partner at The Family Pet, projects a sense of quiet confidence that overlays a wealth of knowledge and a desire to help. Confirming this first impression is Stone, or as his name tag declares, the "Top Dog".

Stone lauds Sherlock's expansive knowledge around pet food, toys, homeopathic medicine and more, noting that every product that enters the store has been thoroughly reviewed by both of them. Stone stated that without Sherlock, the store would not be at the level it is today. Sherlock was quick to deny, and it's obvious that these two don't actually care who the "Top Dog" is – they just care about Rockland's dogs.

Between the two of them, Sherlock and Stone were able to fully update the store. They created a website, an email, a point of sales system, and a way to special order products for customers. Currently, they state that they special order products for customers almost daily to meet the needs of every pet. Most recently, the two have implemented delivery throughout Rockland County, as well as in-store pickup.

An aspect of The Family Pet that exemplifies the care these men have for animals is their adoption support program. Any person who walks in with adoption papers for their cat or dog will receive "Everything they need to get into the house and be completely set up," says Stone. For example, a person who shows up to The Family Pet with a bona fide adoption certificate for a cat gets set up with a litter box, litter, wet cat food and dry cat food, and treats, all to make that transition a little bit easier.

The Family Pet also supports the community through their promotion of the Feed the Ferals organization Near the front of the store, Sherlock highlighted a rack of shirts, sharing that 100% of the proceeds from these shirts are donated to a Rockland County organization which cares for unsheltered  cats and dogs . Stone shared that they keep a bin near the check out for any donations towards Feed the Ferals, mentioning that this bin gets filled up approximately once a week. "People are very, very generous," said Stone.

Pet owners should be sure to keep a close eye on The Family Pet's Facebook page for events like their Pet-icure Pop-Ups, their discounted vaccination clinics, and adoption events. "We are Rockland's only family owned and operated pet food and supply store. We are looking to not only build a brand here, but give back to the community" says Sherlock. It is clear that the team at The Family Pet are doing everything they can to craft that connection with the community.

When coming up with a name for the store, Sherlock and Stone knew that "family" had to be a part of it. The two share a strong belief that family run businesses is what makes an area great – and that local essence was a large reason Stone was a patron of Pet Nutrition for so many years. "I used to feel like when I was a customer I could go in and ask [Stone], 'my dog is having an issue, what should I do?'. And he would tell me." The two said how they would rather put money into their communities by supporting small businesses, rather than filling the pockets of CEOs from big-box corporations. They hope to be able to "…offer a more unique and tailored product assortment than some of the other stores might offer," says Sherlock.

The Family Pet's selection starts as local as possible – their go-to begins right here in Rockland County. They then expand to New York, then the East Coast, and so on and so forth. Stone and Sherlock strive to keep things local, while keeping in mind the budget constraints of an average family. When they do have to go outside of the U.S., Stone and Sherlock have stringent regulations on what they will allow into their store. With both of them being doting pet owners, this level of care is no surprise.

"I will tell you this – I love coming to work every day. If you had told me a year ago that I would own a pet supply store, I would have said you're out of your mind," laughed Stone. "And a year later, here I am. I'm loving every minute. Our customers are the most wonderful people you'll ever meet, and that includes their pets". Sherlock followed Stone, sharing the privilege he feels in being able to help owners keep their pets healthy and happy.

The Family Pet is open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10:00 a.M. – 6:00 p.M., Wednesdays from 10:00 a.M. – 7:00 p.M., and Saturdays from 10:00 a.M. – 5:00 p.M. They are closed Sundays and Mondays. Peruse their selection or make a purchase from their online store at thefamilypet.Store/, or call 845-623-3214.

Local Pet Resource Center To Help Distribute Nearly 13 Tons Of Pet Food

The St. Francis Animal Resource Center is one of two organizations set to collect 25,000 pounds of pet food to be distributed to seniors, the homeless and other low-income pet owners.

The recent food supply comes thanks to A1 Pet Emporium, a pet retailer in Oklahoma City that recently completed its 15th Annual Pet Food Drive. According to a press release, the month-long drive aimed to provide food to those struggling financially so pet owners don't have to choose between food for themselves or their pets.

"We are thrilled with the results of our 15th Annual Pet Food Drive," Owner and President of A1 Pet Emporium G. Brent Clark said in a release. "No one should have to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their beloved pet, and thanks to the generosity of our customers and partners, we can help ensure that pets in our community have access to the nutritious food they need."

The food raised from the drive will be distributed between the Pet Food Pantry of Oklahoma City and Norman's St. Francis Animal Resource Center. St. Francis' President and Executive Director Amy Tyler explained that her organization's relationship with A1 Pet Emporium began four years ago when the store agreed to sell food at a discounted price.

"I'd say we've worked with them for about four years, and each year they've done different things to help support our organization. This is just another one of the drives they've done for us that have been incredibly helpful," Tyler said. "They also give us a discount on pet food. We used to purchase food from a few different suppliers, but now we've gotten to where we solely rely on them because the discount is very generous and allows us to purchase more food than we could any other way."

Tyler also explained the motivation behind her organization's founding in 2018 was the number of owner-surrendered animals she saw while working as a veterinarian at the Norman Animal Welfare Center.

"The idea behind this was if we could supply veterinary supplies, pet food and other resources to pet owners in need, maybe these things we can offer will allow owners to keep their pets," Tyler said, adding, "And the number one request that we get is definitely pet food."

With such a high demand, Tyler hopes that the recent supply from the drive will ease the burden on many owners and allow them to offer the proper amount of care and food to their beloved furry companions.

"Those pets provide companionship, and there are many people that we deliver to that don't have a lot of family and rely on their pets for companionship, so it's really important that those pets be able to stay with those owners," Tyler said. "And the people we serve are always so grateful for the pet food and supplies, so it's really rewarding to be able to help out."

St. Francis offers a variety of pet supplies and services such as kitty litter boxes, pet carriers, connections to low-cost veterinary services and, occasionally, medical bill assistance. But, as Tyler explained, their most utilized resource is their monthly food delivery service.

"We have a lot of people signed up for a monthly delivery service, and all they have to do is show proof of income, proof their pets are spayed and neutered and then we deliver them food once a month," Tyler said. "We also deliver pet food to all of the small food pantries in Norman once or twice a week and offer deliveries to those who just need temporary assistance."

Clark praised Tyler and her staff for all the services and resources they provide the community in a press release, stating the organization does "essential work, and we're proud to support their mission."

But Tyler made it clear – she and her staff couldn't do it without the community's support and donations.

"I'm always really grateful for the support of the community – this would not be possible if we didn't have people donating money, pet food, and pet supplies to our organization," Tyler said. "Without their support, we wouldn't be able to provide any of these services."

Tyler concluded by encouraging those in the community who love pets or want to support the fight against pet food insecurity to consider donating what they can to ensure that St. Francis can continue to provide for struggling pet owners.
