If you're considering adopting another dog, there are so many wonderful reasons to do so, and the first one is probably because you'll be saving a life and giving a dog-in-need a chance at their own happily ever after in a forever home. Plus, you'll be freeing up shelter space for another dog to get their own chance at happiness. It really is a win-win for everyone involved.

Dogs are pack animals, and they really love the company of other pups. When your pup has a canine friend, it can keep them from becoming lonely and help them in times of stress. They can keep each other company when pet parents are at work or running errands, and they have a built in cuddle buddy for nap time.

A second fur baby can provide built-in entertainment and an exercise buddy, which means your own dog can have someone to play with and get their energy out. A tired dog is a less destructive dog.

A second pup can teach your first pup important social cues, reinforcing good behavior and confidence in your current dog. Dogs love to learn from one another!

Plus, there are many bonuses for pet parents too. You get twice the cuddles, kisses, tail wags and unconditional love. What could be better than that?

Out-of-control Dog Savages Small Cavapoo As Horrified Plymouth Shoppers Watch On

A dog owner has thanked members of the public who came to his aid after a large staffy-type dog dragged it's owner across the pavement in Plymouth to attack his terrified cavapoo dog.

Dan Eager said he was out with his mum in the city centre on Sunday [February 15] at around noon and had just left the Coffee#1 on Cornwall Street along with their seven year old cavapoo called Abby, with the intention of turning right and heading up towards Drake Circus mall.

He said: "I had clocked the dog a few seconds before so I made sure to move my dog to my right side away from the incoming dog, and all of a sudden this dog - which was on a lead - just jumped at her and grabbed her at the neck. The woman walking it was clearly too weak to hold it back, it just dragged her over. She made no effort to even try and help get the dog off. Apparently we later found out it wasn't even her dog but her partner's dog.

"As soon as it jumped at my dog Abby, I immediately jumped onto the other dog pinning it to the ground, putting all my bodyweight onto it and immediately started hitting at it to let go. It was really strong - it looked like a staff by mixed with another breed.

"Lots of bystanders stopped to help get the other dog off of which me and my mum really appreciate. Plymouth is truly full of good people.

"I still am traumatised by what happened, and so is my mum. I could hear my mum crying by the side, whilst I tried to maintain my composure and just focus on trying not to worry Abby and trying to get the other dog off her. I didn't see who did it, but someone threw water over the dog's face, and I'm not sure if that was what got it off, but soon after, the dog let go.

"Someone called the police and we had a word with one of the officers who took our details and the lady with the other dog's details. My mum said she was told by an officer that they were waiting for a police van to take the woman and dog away from the area."

Dan and his mother eventually headed off up towards the mall, cutting through to Old Town Street with the aim of heading in the White Stuff store. However, within minutes of being there he said he looked up to see the same woman walking her dog past the window.

He said: "Clearly the police let her go. She must have continued her walk along Cornwall Street, turned along Armada Way and then up New George Street. I think this was completely the wrong call by police and I am still furious about it. The woman walking the dog clearly wasn't strong enough to control it. What if it had attacked another dog or worse?

"Luckily, it could have been a lot worse, as she left with a few scratches and deep teeth marks just below her mouth, but she also was so strong and brave that she was able to walk away. She has a bit of a limp as we think she might have tweaked her shoulder. Luckily she is all up on her jabs and vaccinations.

Dan, who lives in Woolwell, said he had since taken Abby to the vets. He said: "Her face area is still very sensitive and she won't let anyone touch it, even to clear away saliva from the dog. She's been prescribed medication for the next few days.

"Police have our details and the woman's but we have not been given a crime number and have not been contacted yet. After talking with my mum we want the dog which attacked Abby put down and that the owner is banned from ever owning dogs again."

Dan said he wanted to publicly thank the staff at Coffee#1 who he said were "really lovely and accommodating after what had happened, they came over to make sure we were alright, and even offered us free drinks".

He also said he wanted to thank the members of the public who jumped in to help Abby adding: "We really appreciate it. We want to raise awareness to other dog owners because Plymouth's city centre is a hotspot for dog walkers, and the amount of dogs we saw that day in town meant it could have happened to any dog, but we were just unlucky that day.

"People need to be wary that there are some dogs who are not under the control of their owner. This dog could have killed a smaller dog or killed Abby if we had not been able to get it off her."

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at 12pm on Sunday 16 February following reports of a dog attacking another dog in Cornwall Street, Plymouth.

"The person in charge of one of the dogs was given strong words of advice, with a potential for a further visit from a dog handler in due course."
