The Pleasantville Farmers Market staff and volunteers hope you (and all our producers) are enjoying a warm and wonderful holiday season. We wish everyone a very Happy New Year!

Want to make the winter even more special for your producers? Easy to do -- any shopping you do this week, and all winter, directly and significantly invests in their continued production of the artisan food products you love!

2023 is soon underway, the holidays are nearly behind us, and spring seems distant to us now. But January is the month farmers invest in the outdoor growing season to come. One place that helps farmers and food artisans sustain their potential is our year-round, weekly market. With less than 25% of NYS farmers markets staying open year-round, each market dollar received by a vendor in the winter is important. Pleasantville's winter market offers shoppers a way to continue connecting directly with the producers that supply their food. And those folks have really great foods to justify your trip to Memorial Plaza each Saturday! Given the up and down weather of the winter season please place preorders through Pleasantville Farmers Market Online (PFM-O) as this helps producers know what you need. And collecting preorders lets you skip lines for quick pick up on cold days.

PFM-O OPENS TONIGHT
WHO'S IN THIS WEEK?

Visit Pleasantville Farmers Market Online to preorder, Tuesday 7pm - Thursday 7pm. It's easy, quick, and convenient -- a perfect match for winter shopping!

View our Map of the Market to see where all returning and new vendors visiting this Saturday will be located in the marketplace.
In addition to Weekly vendors the following Rotation vendors will also be in this Saturday:

  • Chaseholm Farm Creamery
  • Manor Sangria
  • Noble Pies
  • River Valley Community Grains
  • Strudel House
  • Whitecliff Vineyards

Lead Sponsor Phelps Hospital Northwell Health shares the following: "During the cold days of winter you should consider eating more carbohydrates like those from root vegetables – they help the body to sustain a little more weight, which is needed to insulate against the cold weather. Warming vegetables like potatoes, cabbages, carrots, onions, rutabagas, and winter squash all store well in cool, dark places, and can provide energy and comfort throughout the winter season". As we near the end of our stored squash season, both Mead Orchards and Gajeski Produce still have a variety of winter squash.

ANOTHER WAY TO GIVE: VOTE for PFM in the BOW!

As a community-based service, we're proud to have been awarded the honor of "Best of Westchester" in recent years by voters in Westchester Magazine's annual contest. This feedback is an indication that we're fulfilling our mission to our community, farmers and food artisans. And the attention it garners attracts new shoppers to the Market, which benefits our producers.
Now the 2023 "Best of Westchester" first round voting is open. Please take a minute to VOTE TODAY for your favorite farmers market and all local, small businesses that have earned your loyalty.

To begin use this Best of Westchester link which will take you to a Reader's Ballot where you can place your vote for a favorite Farmers' Market, and a favorite venue to purchase Best Produce. Then explore the other entries and categories highlighting many great county-based businesses.

The format to vote is new this year, with some added steps. Please stick with it to get your votes in, thanks for participating, and thanks for considering Pleasantville Farmers Market in your voting!

VENDOR HIGHLIGHTS

Warm up at the Market with a hot sausage sandwich from SOVA Farm, a cup of hot broth from Woven Stars Farm or SOVA Farm, a great cup of hot coffee or tea from Teagevity, and a warm Knot of This World Pretzel or waffle from Pika's Farm Table.

Did you enjoy Maple View Farm's microgreens, lettuces, mustard greens, bunched kale, pea shoots, claytonia and bunched red radishes over the holidays? By now it's time to stock up again and Maple View has their PFMO store ready for your preorders.

Pura Vida Fisheries uses its fresh seafood to create soups and other convenient items each week. Enjoy some perfect seafood in the New Year!

Bobolink Dairy & Bakehouse will be out in January so stock up this Saturday as they are next in on 2/4/23. Bobolink is highlighting a special limited edition run of Jean-Louis cheese that is a blue! The flavor is gently & complexly blue, with a sublime texture that is buttery and fudgy. This cheese is distinctly less salty than most blues. They also have Endgame, a special cheese made at the end of autumn having a smooth texture and pungent aroma.

New weekly vendor Hilly Acres Farm is in with beef, poultry, pork, lamb, and eggs. Browse PFM-O to get to know their many offerings.

Mead Orchards has Honeycrisp apples again, just in time for the New Year! These just came out of controlled atmosphere storage, so they're as fresh and crunchy as when they were picked.

Edgwick Farm will visit this Saturday with some hard and soft goat cheeses, then they're out in January to kid over 100 baby goats (follow social media for baby goat images). Edgwick will return with fresh goat milk, goat-gurt, ri(goat)ta and other fresh cheeses on 2/4/23.

Woven Stars Farm has partnered with Chef Jack Peele of Jacuterie to craft dry cured salamis using blends of spices, herbs and Woven's excellent pork. Two flavors to start: a spicy Spanish inspired salami (seasoned with smoky paprika, garlic and red wine), and a floral French inspired salami (seasoned using thyme, basil, rosemary, tarragon, savory, marjoram, oregano, bay leaf, white pepper and garlic). Woven also has a fresh batch of their frozen bone broth in quarts, and they'll be offering hot cups for sale of their broth at the Market too!

Gajeski Produce will have items for walk up shoppers (selection will vary depending on cold temps) and all their items are in PFMO including fresh herbs, stored squash, potatoes, roots veggies, fresh scallions, leeks, greens, lettuce mixes, and more.

Whitecliff Vineyard will be in and they're highlighting their big reds, and their sparkling North River line of champagne method wines, made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Riesling through the true champagne method. Try the official Whitecliff Holiday Cocktail made with North River sparkling wine, maple syrup, a few drops of lemon juice, and a splash of pomegranate-blueberry juice, and frozen blueberries. Stop by their tent Saturday to review the recipe. Whitecliff has a much larger selection of products than they can bring to the Market, so they encourage shoppers to preorder from PFM-O from their full selection.

Chaseholm Farm Creamery has two new items: Red Beard, a smear ripened cheese washed with hard apple cider. And they're now sourcing Jake's Aged Gouda from NY to sell a Dutch Style Gouda -- sweet, nutty and full of lactate crystals. Note: after 12/31 Chaseholm will visit on the 2nd & 4th Saturday of each month.

Spice Revolution is encouraging shoppers to start the new Year off with fresh spices. Choose from their diverse offerings in refill pouch or glass jar sizes. They're highlighting ginger, tumeric and black garlic this week. Check out all the spice options in PFM-O tonight!

For a quick and easy New Year's dessert, Conant Valley Jams suggests baking a Jam Crostata. Create a pie dough, spread with jam, fold up edges and bake. Simpler yet, share a pear or mixed berry jam with your cheese platter.

Manor Sangria will be in with fresh, hand-crafted sangria for your New Year's celebrations!

Red Barn Bakery and Strudel House and Noble Pies are all in to provide baked goods for the holiday. Also, choose your loaves and sweet treats from Orwasher's Bakery or Bien Cuit -- each will have a selection of items for walk up shoppers, and an even wider selection of their artisanal items in PFM-O for preorder.
