German Shepherd Puppy Survives Brutal Stabbing: 'It's A Miracle'

A German shepherd puppy from North Carolina is lucky to be alive after she was stabbed in the back during a domestic dispute.

Clementine was just two months old at the time of the brutal attack. On June 2, a 22-year-old woman allegedly stabbed the puppy at a property in the 1600 block of West Fifth Avenue in Gastonia, WBTV in Charlotte reported.

According to the news station, the suspect chased her boyfriend with a knife, threw the knife at him, and then stabbed his dog, Clementine. She is also accused of trying to assault her boyfriend's mother and allegedly breaking two windows at her home.

She was charged with felony cruelty to animals and misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon and appeared in court earlier this month.

Newsweek reached out to the Gastonia Police Department for comment.

Clementine has since come into the care of Chrissy Elder, who owns and operates Forgotten Now Family Rescue in Charlotte.

"It's a miracle that Clementine survived, but she's doing really well," Elder told Newsweek. "Today she is sitting up and eating and drinking alone. She's starting to walk as well!"

Clementine has already had to undergo one lifesaving operation, with the surgery setting the shelter back some $6,000. She's not out of the woods yet, though, with Elder admitting the young pup may still require additional vascular surgery, which could cost a further $10,000.

Elder is not focusing on those details right now but instead simply expressing thanks and relief that Clementine is alive and doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances.

For all the pain she has endured, Clementine has lost none of her zest for life or love for humans. When Elder first picked her up from the hospital, the pup greeted her with "kisses and tons of tail wags."

Pets are often caught in the crossfire of a distressing domestic violence situation. A study published in the journal Society & Animals in 1997 found that 71 percent of domestic violence victims reported that their abuser also targeted pets.

Elder has seen pets fall victim like this before.

"We have seen a horrific increase of animals involved in domestic violence situations," she said. "Our rescue is thankful we can step up and serve these victims during a horrific time."

Right now, Elder is determined to make sure Clementine no longer suffers. On their way home together from the hospital, Elder said she promised Clementine: "It's all over now. You will never ever be in the hands of someone else who will hurt you."

Elder has now set her heart on fostering Clementine to full health and then finding her the right forever home.

"She will be available for adoption when medically cleared in a few months," she said.

Heartbreaking Tale Behind Video Of German Shepherd Playing With Tiny Kitten

Animal lovers' hearts have melted seeing a German Shepherd playing an epic game of hide and seek with a tiny kitten, but the sad story behind the interaction has made it particularly poignant.

TikTok user Anna Rebecca (@Anna_rebecca_s) took to the site on May 17 where she shared a clip of the Shepherd, Dexter, sticking his nose into a crack in the sofa into which he had just seen a kitten disappear.

Then, a kitten's white face pops out of a different crack behind a cushion but disappears into the sofa again as soon as Dexter notices her. As he sticks his snout and paws behind the cushions, the kitten, Plum, disappears again—before jumping out from behind another cushion with her paws outstretched.

The video has proved massively popular on TikTok, receiving more than 23,000 likes and 400,000 views as users fawned over the "very sweet" video. Speaking to Newsweek, Anna Rebecca revealed the touching reason she chose to share it with the world.

She took the video two years ago when she was staying with a family in Marbella who rescued and fostered multiple animals. Recently, German Shepherd Dexter sadly passed away from cancer.

"My phone suggested the video to me and it made me smile. So I decided to post it. It didn't fit with my content, but it was my way of remembering Dexi," she said.

She said: "The video was just the first time I caught them playing. I love the video because it goes against the common belief that dogs and cats are sworn enemies."

Despite the old stereotype, the Animal Humane Society (AHS) writes in an online publication that many dogs and cats can live together peacefully, and sometimes even become friends.

It urges patience when introducing the animals to one another, and to watch carefully for any nervousness or aggression, but notes that regardless of how well the introduction is done, how the cat and dog get along depends on their individual personalities.

The kitten in the video, Plum, is now three years old, and she and Dexter "often played together by chasing each other or playing hide and seek," Anna Rebecca said.

Both Plum and Dexter, as well as the other animals in the house, were rescued by the family in Marbella, who currently have eight dogs and two cats.

"Plum was adopted as a kitten, which made the introduction to the dogs a lot easier," she said, adding that they were "careful and supervised everything," but the dogs "quickly accepted her as one of their own".

Anna Rebecca "wasn't expecting" the video to go viral, and while Dexter's death is heartbreaking, she said she has been "moved" by the number of people who have seen the video, and hopes it made people laugh.

It certainly caused a huge reaction on TikTok, with users flocking to comment on the cute video. One user wrote: "The cat won hide and seek."

"That's brilliant," another said, with a third commenting: "This is like whack a mole!"

"The paw kick at the end is wild," a fourth user said. A different user noted "cats are very good at hide and seek games."

German Shepherd Tries Whining To Grandma When Mom Tells Her No More Swim Time

If you've never had a dramatic dog before, then you'll never know how much of a treat they can be. These dogs are funny! Like a German Shepherd online who was straight-up complaining when her mama told her that she had to stop swimming for the night. "Awwwww, mannnn," she seemed to say.

The dog wasn't going to give up the fight easily, as the footage hilariously proves.

In a clip shared by the German Shepherd's owner, it shows Koda making her case to a group of people sitting by a fire pit. The dog had just come from swimming — but she still wanted to be in the water. So naturally she started whining. Loudly. And to anyone who would hear her pleas.

"My overtired German Shepherd crying because she's not allowed to swim anymore," the video's text overlay reads.

She was really going on about it. She even tried to get people in the circle to go against her owner and be on her side.

"'If mom wont let me, maybe Mimi will' - Probably Koda," her owner joked in the caption.

Sadly for Koda, people in the comments section agreed it was sort of funny. "I'll be good if I can swim agai— don't mock me like that!!" wrote one person, as if reading Koda's mind. "My German Shepherd would talk back to me ALL THE TIME," someone else shared. "She reminds me of a child crying through the store for toys, but when your dog does it is so cute," another person added. "Showing this to everyone who thinks it's not normal when my shepherd whines 24/7," another German Shepherd owner shared.

Koda isn't the only pup guilty of using their pleas to get their way. Dogs whine for a variety of reasons. Here are just a few reasons why your dog might moan and groan.

This might sound counterintuitive, but lots of dogs whine as a way to appease others. They'll even do so while adopting a submissive posture too.

Dogs will also whine when greeting others — it's sort of their way to say hello.

This should surprise no one, but yes — dogs use whining as a way to get attention. They'll also do it when they want something specifically, like a toy or more belly rubs.

When a dog is stressed, sometimes they'll whine from anxiety. Similarly, your dog might whine if they are experiencing separation anxiety or are having a medical issue. If that's the case, you want to consult your vet ASAP. No need to let your favorite little guy suffer.

Sadly, whining is normal for certain breeds. So be prepared next time you ask your dog to come inside from the pool.
