Buddy. SUBMITTED PHOTO

Buddy is a male Boxer/Hound mix and is three to five years old. His nickname is "T-I-double guh- ER!" His energy level is high and he is extremely sweet with people and seems to be really good with dogs, but cats are not recommended.

Meet Buddy! This awfully sweet, cuddly fella is bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy, fun, fun, fun, fun, fun! This energetic boy definitely lives up to his Boxer/Hound breed. He loves to run around, find trails around the dog park, and just be silly in general! He would need some work with his owner on his leash manners, as he tends to get a little distracted when walking. He is a really sweet boy and is still quite gentle despite his exuberance. We feel like he would do well in a home with people of all ages, and that he would get along well with other dogs. However, he does have a bit of a prey drive when it comes to smaller animals, so his new home should not have any cats. Come meet this bouncing brindle bundle of joy!

Calypso. SUBMITTED PHOTO

Calypso, or the Nymph of Ogygia (in Greek mythology, she's a nymph of the mythical island of Ogygia) is a mellow dilute calico of one to three years. Meet Calypso! She is a kind little lady towards people, but does not interact with cats, and will scream if approached by them. Her personality is pretty chill, overall, and mostly likes to hang out on the catwalk and sleep. She doesn't really interact much with other cats, though she tends to scream like a prey animal when approached by them. She won't try to fight; she'll just scream her little head off. She is quite sweet with new people, though she's not likely to approach you outright, rather she will wait for you to come up to her to initiate the interaction. It is unknown how she reacts to dogs.

We are looking for fosters for Kitten Season!

SUBMITTED PHOTO

Kitten season is upon us, and we have some pregnant Momma Cats here at the shelter who are ready to have their own space to give birth! We have had a lot of interest in fostering in the past, and we know some people have time restraints, but we do not want to overlook anyone! If you are interested in fostering, PLEASE give us a call at 207-778-2638 to discuss!

Some things to keep in mind if you are interested in fostering: Momma, and her subsequent kittens will need a space of their own, separate from your living space, and away from other animals that you may have. Any pets in your home must be up to date on their vaccinations. We will need proof of veterinary records. Kittens must get a wellness check at the shelter at 6 weeks old. Kittens will be ready to get spayed/neutered and adopted once they reach 8 weeks and/or 2 pounds

Jack Russell Terrier Dog Show Ready To Roll Into The Malheur County Fairgrounds

ONTARIO – The Malheur County Fairgrounds is going to the dogs.

Jack Russell Terrier dogs, that is.

About 100 of the animals and their owners will converge on the fairgrounds Saturday, June 22, and Sunday, June 23, for the Treasure Valley Gemboree, a competition sponsored by the Tri-State Jack Russell Terrier Club.

"It is a really fun thing for people to do," said Kelly Finn, club president.

A British dog breed, Jack Russel Terriers were initially raised to hunt foxes.

The Ontario event consists of a series of competitions geared to capitalize on the terrier's desire to hunt, said Finn.

The dogs will go through a series of timed events, such as navigating tunnels where they negotiate obstacles. At the end of the tunnel will be a rat in a cage and the animals "work" the rat – bark and whine and scratch outside of the cage – for 30 seconds.

The dogs will also compete to chase a lure down a short track for the best time, said Finn.

There will also be competitions where the dogs participate in mock hunting events or locate a specific target.

The dogs will also be judged on their size and body.

Winners in each event will be eligible for prizes such as backpacks and other dog accessories. Cash prizes of up to $100 will be awarded.

Events begin at 9 a.M. Both Saturday and Sunday. The event is free to the public.

Jack Russell Terrier dogs are tough, persistent animals that can weigh 14 to 18 pounds. They are still used to find many underground animals such as groundhogs, badgers and foxes.

For their small size they are high energy and are considered very intelligent.

'I'll Pay It Forward': Claremore Neighbors Get Free Pet Food From Light Of Hope

CLAREMORE, Okla. — Light of Hope, a non-profit based in Claremore, is finding ways to keep helping its neighbors more than two weeks after a tornado blew through town.

An EF2 tornado hit Claremore in late May.It knocked out power for days and left damage behind. The town is still recovering.

Organizers told 2 News the need for pet food is big. On the evening of June 18, they hosted an event to give the food away and bring people together.

Just a few days after the storm, Mindie Baab had an idea. Surely, she thought, people would need food for their furry friends. It seems she was right, as the line for food at the event was long.

However, Baab said, that is just a small part of what they have given away.

According to Baab, a board member with Light of Hope, the group handed out thousands of bags of food. The need was there and it won't go away.

"I cannot keep pet food in stock," Baab said.

2 News met Amanda Jones at the event. She grabbed food for her dog, Luna, and cat, Tarzan.

"I thought I'd come and get some," Jones said, "When I get on my feet, I'll pay it forward."

Things are tight for Jones, but she's doing everything she can.

"[My pets] mean everything to me. They're my best friends," Jones said.

Nancy Phelps, Light of Hope's executive director, said the tornado damaged the group's building and they are operating remotely. However, they are still providing their services at full clip.

"These are things that we should be doing anyway," Phelps said, "This tornado, if it's taught us anything, it's how to collaborate and work better together."

Zachary Porter, dog dad to Bailey, moved to Claremore right before the tornado hit. He was at the event picking up food for Bailey.

He is proud of the way his new neighbors are upholding the Oklahoma Standard.

"Have fun, meet your neighbors, become friends with your neighbors and not enemies."

Going forward, Light of Hope will gladly accept donations of pet supplies and will be willing to help those in need.
