One local, who declined to be named, told how police officers arrived within minutes of the attack and had to use batons to get the beasts off the woman who was being dragged about the ground like a "rag doll."
He said: "It was frightening. It all happened so quick.
"There was four pit bull dogs. They just went for the little Lhasa Apso and killed it within a few minutes.
"One had it by the throat and the others were just ripping into it.
"The owner threw herself over the dog but then they turned on her.
"But she didn't stand a chance. Two of them just dragged her off the dog and pulled her down the street a bit.
"The cops arrived very quickly, within minutes, and one of them used their baton on the dog that was still holding onto the woman.

Smart bark-itectureTria Giovan/Estudio Ramos + Bulgin & Associates
Part minimalist dog house, part garden planter, this cool canine crash pad was designed by architect Juan Ignacio Ramos as part of a fundraiser for the Animal Rescue Fund in The Hamptons, New York.
Topped with greenery, this house has a raised bench so that while your doggy gets cosy in his little home, you can stay close and enjoy some quality bonding time. Now that's what we call smart bark-itecture!
Bow Wow HausTria Giovan/Fountainhead Construction + Robert Young Architects

A collaboration from Fountainhead Construction + Robert Young Architects, the house has an extended roof to offer shade on hot days and easy access to a raised water bowl. It's the perfect addition to any billionaire's backyard.
The Domus Canus dog follyTria Giovan/Katherine McCoy Architecture + Walter Sternlieb at Studio 449
What could be prettier in a country garden than a pup pergola?

With a gorgeous zinc roof and even lovely wallpaper inside, it'll win over even the pickiest of pooches.
Snoop E(nigma)Tria Giovan/Beeton & Company/Landscape Details
Perfect for shy dogs, this mirrored marvel is the perfect hiding place.
This optical illusion house, the Snoop E(nigma), designed by Bill Beeton of Beeton & Company architects, was inspired by the Snoopy dog house in Charles Schulz's famous canine comic character.
Much like the phenomenon of mirrored houses for humans, it offers a place of protection that is very hard to spot.
In the ultimate dog houseThe folks who built this two-storey home in their backyard, don't have the same problem.
Their two bounding golden retrievers love living in this house of fun and have to be dragged out every morning after a good night's sleep in their den.
According to online pet magazine, The Daily Paws, the house was a Christmas present for Burgundy Caldwell-Waller, known by her Tik Tok fans as Chip Girl Here, from her husband.
In the ultimate dog houseA scaled down version of her own home, Burgundy has installed a play kitchen on the ground floor of the house, in case her pups feel like whipping up their own creations. Let's just hope they won't taste like a dog's dinner!
The house, built by Charmed Playhouses has an upstairs complete with cosy dog bed, although there are also bunk beds for the pups on the ground level, seen here.
Burgundy posts regular updates on the antics of her dogs on social media, decorating their house for the holidays. Of course!
The Hacienda dog houseIf your backyard is smaller than Burgundy's, a far smaller miniature house, The Hacienda dog house is a one-of-a-kind creation from South Carolina-based craftspeople La Petite Maison.
Created for the German Shepherd of Rod Stewart's former wife, Rachel Hunter, this unique structure resembles a hound-size Hispanic hacienda and looks right at home in sunny California.
The Hacienda dog houseIf you thought the exterior was fabulous enough, check out the inside! Clay tiled floors make it both aesthetically pleasing and easy to clean and the centrepiece feature makes for a tasteful addition. There's even room for snaps of your dog's puppy pals to line the walls.
Complete with your choice of amenities, such as lighting, heating and running water, the hacienda is more than a holiday home. So, if you have upwards of £25,000 ($32k) lying around, this pet property may be well worth your investment.
The Colonial Bone-steadLa Petite Maison offer a range of options and styles, from a French château to a Swiss chalet. We're particularly taken with this stunning colonial-style mansion, which is a dog-sized replica of its owner's historic home in Colorado.
And speaking of replicas...

How about a Windsor Castle lookalike for your best friend? This patriotic pooch is Archie, a Lhasa Apso from West Yorkshire, England who lives like royalty!
His owner, Susan Crossland, splashed out on a kennel in the shape of Windsor Castle in honour of Harry and Meghan's royal wedding in 2018. We heard he and the late Queen's corgis had one hell of a pawty.

Crossland attracted the puparazzi in her mission to mark Harry and Meghan's momentous occasion.
She sought out London-based set designers from The Russell Beck Studio to bring her vision to life. It cost £5,000 (£6.5k) and took 244 hours to construct a kennel truly fit for a king.
The dog house that does goodIt's not a castle, but this elegant space provides a tranquil resting place for man's best friend. This award-winning kennel was designed by Made By Pen in partnership with Melbourne architect Michael Ong.
And the kennel does good too, as Help Manufacturing, a social enterprise enhancing the lifestyle, independence and ambitions of people with disability, helped out with the production.
Mini-me doggie mansion@robbie_glorykickboxing/Instagram
It's time to meet our first spoiled pack of pups. Say hi to Robbie Timmers, a devoted dog owner living in Thailand. He shelled out close to £8,000 ($10k) to build a two-storey mansion for his canine brood.
The chic black and white structure has air conditioning, security cameras, smart lighting and a sliding door to the porch. It's actually a mini replica of his own home.
He was even thinking of adding a swimming pool! "Home is where the heart is," says Robbie on his Instagram. There's just one problem....
Mini-me doggie mansion@robbie_glorykickboxing/Instagram
The dogs refuse to use it. "I have to be honest, my dogs never set foot in the house," revealed Robbie on social media. "They just didn't like it…It has everything. Just no dogs."
Robbie posted this night-time image, commenting, "I wish I could capture this picture with a great text about how our dogs love to chill outside before they go sleep in their own house, but I can't. Pictures of them near their house are still very rare."
They just want to be close to their favourite person, Robbie!
A pawesome living room@worldsbestdogdad/Instagram
Another besotted owner going above and beyond for his pets, Ben Mazer turned a whole room of his house into a miniature designer doggy room.
Mazer, better known on social media as WorldsBestDogDad, transformed his spare room into a living room for pooches Peaches, Challah and Mitzi, constantly changing the set-ups and sharing his designs online.

Complete with miniature bar cart, this hairy haven has a sofa for each pup, a fish tank, working TV, bookshelves and a chandelier.
Everything is immaculately styled and there's even art on the walls for the dogs to admire while their dad is at work.
One of his most recent make-overs for his dogs has a royal theme and sees his lounge styled as if it were a room in make-believe Weinser Castle. Get it?
Bespoke dog nookX (formerly Twitter) user Al_Chris16 got a taste of viral Internet fame after sharing images of his brother's pampered pooch.
In a true labour of love, this lucky French bulldog was treated to their own private and secluded secret spot in the home, nestled right under the staircase. Complete with photos and ambient lighting, naturally.
What a wonderful studio apartment. We've seen London flats less spacious than this!

Of course, most dogs would rather stay up close and personal to their owners, so here's the ideal solution.
Jasmine Roth, designer and host of the HGTV renovation show, Help! I Wrecked My House, made this chic bedside table that doubles as a dog bed, so that your pooch can stay by your side while not actually sleeping in your bed.
Jasmine is keen on incorporating your pets' needs into the very fabric of the home and an expert in making use of empty spaces for her signature 'dog caves' as seen on her Instagram.
Paris Hilton's 'doggy mansion'Even some of our most pampered pooches seem poor in comparison to Paris Hilton's puppies. The socialite shared images of her 'doggy mansion' on X a while back. Although with at least four chihuahuas and plenty more pets, why not give them a luxury home?
This amazing structure was positioned in the grounds of her own, architecturally similar, Beverly Hills mansion.
Paris Hilton's 'doggy mansion'This interior snap of the 'doggy mansion' gives us an exclusive glimpse inside. Hilton revealed that the kennel is two stories high, kitted out with designer furniture and has air-conditioning for those hot LA days as well as heating for the cold winter nights.
The Hilton Pets have their own Instagram if you want to see more of them and their incredible home.
Beam House dog shelterIt may not belong to a celebrity, but designer dog homes don't get any more sleek and ultra-modern than the mind-blowing canine constructions by Pijuan Design Workshop.
Nothing hot pink, flashy or crystal-encrusted, husband-and-wife designers Alejandro and Sara instead create structures that effortlessly fit into the landscape of your home.
Based in Los Angeles, their kennels and dog beds are suited for the stylish homemaker and wouldn't be out of place on a TV show.
Beam House dog shelterOffering made-to-order canine abodes, one of Pijuan Design Workshop's designs is Beam House, a quintessentially 'Colliefornian' kennel.
Flowered by nature and covered by shade, it beautifully complements both indoor and outdoor living without sacrificing comfort for whichever lucky pet gets to call it home.
Mutter'fly HousePijuan Design Workshop's Mutter'fly house is a unique and beautifully created space for a dog of any size to enjoy. We particularly love the green roof for temperature control on this one, giving passive home vibes.
But our favourite of the incredible doggy homes Pijuan make is all about multi-purpose furniture...

A guy and a golden@aguyandagoldenn/Instagram
This adorable golden retriever called Teddy became an internet sensation when his owner built him a home under the stairs at their home in Piedmont, South Carolina.
Jonathan Lower built the luxurious pad himself from wood and stone, installing its own television, fireplace and a Ring doorbell. There's even a window which appears to provide views into the forest.
He's constantly updating and adding to Teddy's dog house, which is seen here dressed up as Santa's grotto.
A guy and a golden@aguyandagoldenn/Instagram
Lower posts videos of him and Teddy under the name of @aguyandagoldenn and has proved an internet sensation, with more than 4.5 million followers on Instagram alone.
Lower provides a step-by-step guide to building his unique dog house over on YouTube, so you can create your own. He has been inundated with requests for interviews and collaborations, he could easily give up his day job in real estate.
Most importantly though, Teddy cheers everyone up. "Dogs can be a beacon of light for people, they're mood lifters," Lower told online newspaper Independent Mail. We couldn't agree more.
